FIREFIGHTER I

Train in department organization, safety, fire behavior, portable extinguishers, personal protective equipment, tools, ladders, fire hose, appliances and streams, overhaul, rescue and water supplies. Train on fire alarm and communications, forcible entry, ventilation, ropes, control, salvage, cause and origin, detection, alarm and suppression systems, prevention, public education, cause determination, building construction, and hazardous materials. Personal protective equipment required. Upon successful completion of this course students will take the Firefighter I certification test and be prepared for entry-level positions in fire fighting.

EMERGENCY MEDICAL TECHNICIAN (EMT CERTIFICATION)  

EMTs serve as a vital link between the scene of a medical emergency situation and the hospital, and must have sufficient knowledge to perform both routine and urgent tasks. Typically using equipment found in ambulances, they need the basic skills to stabilize and safely transport patients for proper medical care. They must exhibit teamwork and possess the ability to react quickly and efficiently in lifesaving situations.

Program Length: 170 hours

EMT ADVANCE (EMERGENCY MEDICAL TECHNICIAN - ADVANCED)

Advanced Emergency Medical Technicians provide basic and limited, advanced emergency medical care and transportation for individuals, and function as part of an EMS response team, utilizing equipment commonly found on an ambulance. They provide on-scene, rapid, pre-hospital treatment. They may be employed by ambulance services, fire departments, or law enforcement departments. Upon successful completion of this program, students will be offered the chance to sit for the AEMT certification test offered by the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians. The first testing attempt is included with the tuition.

Individuals applying for the Advanced EMT National Certification must meet the following requirements:

Current National Registry certification or state license at the EMT level or higher.
Successful completion of the BCACC's state-approved course (testing candidates must have completed the course within the past two years).
Possess a current CPR-BLS for "Healthcare Provider" or equivalent credential.
Successful completion of the National Registry cognitive (knowledge and psychomotor (skills) exam.
